The eNaira website of the Central Bank of Nigeria has gone live ahead of its official debut on October 1.

“eNaira is a CB-issued digital currency that provides a unique form of money denominated in Naira,” according to the website www.enaira.com.

According to the CBN, eNaira would function as both a medium of exchange and a store of value, with better payment prospects in retail transactions than cash.

It went on to say that the eNaira had a unique operational structure that was both unique and unlike any other type of central bank money.

“In Nigeria, there are various benefits from a central bank-issued digital money, and these benefits cut across all sectors of the economy and concerns,” it noted.

The eNaira app, according to the CBN, would showcase and represent brand values focusing on ease of use and efficiency while maintaining security.

It claimed, “We designed this App with a deeper understanding of clients, what they value, their strengths, and their constraints.”

Customers will be able to easily transfer money from their bank account to their eNaira wallet; monitor their eNaira wallet, check balances, and view transaction history; make in-store payments using their eNaira wallet by scanning QR codes; and send money to one another via a linked bank account or card, according to the website.

The eNaira was designed with unique aspects for modern solutions that paid close attention to details, according to the statement.

The website claims that the CBN-issued and regulated Nigerian digital currency will have a number of advantages, including a fast, cheap, reliable, and widely available payment channel; support for the digital economy; improved economic activity; and simplified and easy cross-border payments and trade.

That statement went on to say that it would make sure excluded people were included in the financial system, that monetisation would be made more effective, that tax remittance and collection would be simplified to help the country grow and that targeted social interventions would be simplified to help Nigerians.

CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele recently stated that it would be introduced on July 4th as part of the country’s Independence Day celebrations.

Nigerians will be able to download the eNaira app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store on October 1 and fund their eNaira wallets using their bank accounts or cash at a registered agent starting on that date.” he said. ”

A journey would begin on October 1st, according to him, with the debut of the eNaira currency.
