MESSI ‘SURPRISED’ OVER ‘SHOCKED’ BARCELONA EXIT

lionel messiBarcelona stated that Lionel Messi would be leaving the club after 21 years; Messi was’surprised’ by the news, but he will now investigate other offers; PSG believe they have a decent chance of signing Messi.

According to reports, Lionel Messi was “shocked” and “surprised” to learn on Thursday that Barcelona would not be able to keep him.

To cope with what transpired, the Argentine is at home in Barcelona with his father and agent Jorge.

Exactly one day after Messi returned to Catalonia after his Copa America vacation, Barca revealed that Messi will be leaving the Nou Camp after 21 years.

Messi travelled to Barcelona on Thursday to finalize the specifics of his new five-year contract, which would see his income lowered by 50 percent, and to discuss preparations for the Joan Gamper Trophy game on Sunday, which will be played at Camp Nou.

La Liga’s financial laws prevented the club from registering Messi as a player, despite his belief that everything was in order. In a news conference on Friday morning, President Joan Laporta spelled out the financial nightmare that has left the team unable to finance a new contract for the 34-year-old player.

On Thursday, Barcelona’s all-time leading scorer offered to decrease his salary further and renegotiate additional terms with the club.

Yet even with Messi’s projected pay, the club still spends 95% of its income on player salaries.

Messi wanted to stay in Barcelona and this summer he didn’t think of any other teams. He didn’t have plan B.

But Messi and his father are again open in the next several days to join another team and listen to proposals.

Barcelona must renegotiate and sell additional high-ranking contracts in order to balance the finances.

This is a strong sign that Barcelona doesn’t seem to be a path back.

Messi was made a free agent on July 1 after his previous agreement expired on June 30 and Paris Saint-Germain is leading the forward-looking competition at the moment.

In talks with Messi, PSG is progressing, believes that they have a high chance of concluding the agreement and can sign it without infringing any fair play laws on finance.

Free agents Gianluigi Donnarumma, Sergio Ramos, and Georginio Wijnaldum have already been signed this summer.
