Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, known professionally as Burna Boy, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is one of the biggest and most influential African artists of all time, pioneering the global Afrofusion movement and bringing African music to the international mainstream with his unique blend of Afrobeat, dancehall, and reggae influences.
Early Life
Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu was born on July 2, 1991, in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. He comes from a family with deep musical roots - his mother, Bose Ogulu, worked as a language translator and managed legendary Nigerian artist Fela Kuti, exposing Burna Boy to Afrobeat from a young age. His father, Samuel Ogulu, ran a welding business. Burna Boy grew up in Southern Nigeria and began making his own beats using FL Studio software. He attended Corona Secondary School in Agbara, Ogun State, before pursuing higher education. His family heritage includes his father being from the Ogoni tribe (part of the larger Igbo people of the Niger Delta region) while his mother is from the Edo ethnic group.
Career
Burna Boy started making songs in 2010. He became famous two years later when Like to Party, came out. His first records helped him build a strong start. He put out his first full album in 2013 and another one in 2015.
