We’re only a  months to the release of The Matrix 4, and we’ve finally gotten our hands on some information about it.

When the fourth film was formally announced at CinemaCon in August 2021, it was revealed that it will be titled The Matrix Resurrections (as an earlier leak had claimed). At the occasion, the first trailer was also screened, and it has now been revealed that it will be available online on September 9.

The next Matrix film was originally scheduled to release in 2022, however Warner Bros. surprised everyone by moving the release date to December 22, 2021. As a result of the ongoing worldwide situation, other films have been postponed or cancelled, but this one has managed to hold onto its release date.

The announcement of The Matrix 4 was made in August of this year, with Lana Wachowski directing and writing the latest installment. It was decided that Lilly Wachowski would not return since she felt she took a break from the series and found the prospect of returning “expressly unappealing.”

The return of Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss is confirmed, but Laurence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving are unlikely to return for a variety of reasons that we’ll discuss later.

So without further ado, here’s everything you need to know about The Matrix Resurrections: Part 1 and Part 2.

How long will it take for the trailer for The Matrix Resurrections to be released online?

The first trailer was screened on August 24 at CinemaCon, and Warner Bros has confirmed that the video will be posted online on September 9th, the same day as the film’s release.

The trailer can be seen in its entirety on the official website, which you may access right now. You’ll see different versions of the teaser depending on when you come and which pill you take; there are more than 180,000 different variants in total.

If you want to know more about what happens in the trailer, the details from its CinemaCon presentation are available online, but we’ll refrain from giving anything away here for the time being.

In The Matrix Resurrections, who plays who in the cast of The Matrix 4?

As previously stated, Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity, despite the fact that both characters were killed at the conclusion of The Matrix Revolutions.

Reeves provided an explanation for his decision to return, stating: “With her writing, Lana Wachowski created an emotionally moving drama that spoke to me on many levels. That is the only reason to go through with it.”

The first glimpses of Neo and Trinity back in action during filming have already been revealed to us. According to the description of the trailer, the new film would begin with them completely uninformed of who the other is or even what the Matrix is.

Of course, we anticipate that this will quickly change throughout the course of the film.

Jada Pinkett Smith will reprise her role as Niobe, which she previously performed in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. They will be joined by Daniel Bernhardt, who will reprise his role as Agent Johnson.

Lambert Wilson is also rumored to be reprising his role as the Merovingian, if and when his schedule permits it. If he does return, it enhances the likelihood that Monica Bellucci will also return as Persephone, the Merovingian’s wife, which would be a coup for the show.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who previously appeared in Aquaman and Watchmen, is the most interesting new addition to the roster.

He hasn’t revealed anything about his role in the film, despite unconfirmed rumors that he would be portraying a younger version of Morpheus. Abdul-Mateen II, on the other hand, “would love to talk about The Matrix.”

Although he appears to be Morpheus in the teaser and even offers Neo the red pill, there is yet to be any formal confirmation that he is in fact the titular character from the film.

But what about Laurence Fishburne, the actor who played the original Morpheus? In August 2020, he announced that he had “not been invited” to appear in the fourth installment of the franchise. It’s not entirely apparent why this is the case, or whether it fully eliminates the possibility of Morpheus emerging.

Even Fishburne stated that he had no idea why he hadn’t returned in June 2021, saying, “You’d have to ask Lana Wachowski why, since I don’t have an explanation for that.”

Neil Patrick Harris of How I Met Your Mother fame has joined the group for a key role, and he has already expressed his appreciation for the intimate working environment, while Jessica Lu Yi Henwick, who has appeared in Marvel and Game of Thrones, is scheduled to play a leading role.

“The three things I want are a leather jacket, sunglasses, and wire work, which I said when I first signed up for the site. I got two out of three correct – I’ll leave it up to you to guess which ones they were “Henwick made light of her upcoming role.

Jonathan Groff, best known for his roles in Mindhunter and Frozen, has joined the cast, which also includes Stephen Graham, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Spartacus star Ellen Hollman, and iZombie actor Andrew Caldwell, among others.

No information has been released about the characters they’ll be portraying, but Chopra Jonas has suggested that her character will be “something you wouldn’t imagine.”

For Sense8 fans, there will be a few recognizable faces as well, as Brian J Smith, Toby Onwumere, and Eréndira Ibarra have all joined the cast as well. Their roles, as well as those of the other new cast members, are being kept under wraps.

Christina Ricci will also appear in the film, which was confirmed in June 2021 (far after filming had concluded) and will be a pleasant surprise for fans of the franchise. However, we have no idea who she is portraying this time.

But there is one celebrity from the original trilogy who will not be returning: Hugo Weaving, who played Agent Smith, confirmed in January 2020 that “they’re pushing on ahead without me.”

The release date for The Matrix 4 is as follows: The Matrix Resurrections is scheduled to be released on May 31.

The Matrix 4 was originally set for release on May 21, 2021 in the United Kingdom and the United States, however it was postponed to April 1, 2022 as a result of filming difficulties.

The film’s release date has now been pushed ahead to December 22, 2021, which puts it in direct conflict with The King’s Man, as previously mentioned.

For the first time ever, Warner Bros. is releasing all of its 2021 films on HBO Max and in theaters at the same time in the United States, which means HBO Max customers in the United States will be able to see the return of Neo on December 22, 2021 as well.
