Ikoyi Building Collapse – the effort to find survivors

In total, at least 15 individuals have killed and many more are still missing, according to authorities.

According to rescue workers on the scene, they have heard more voices coming from beneath the rubble. So far, nine individuals have been rescued alive.

The nearly completed luxury apartment building collapsed on Monday, but the cause of the collapse is still under investigation.

Overnight, despite the torrential rain, searchers continued their search by digging through wreckage and twisted metal under the illumination of floodlights.

According to Ibrahim Farinloye of Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency, rescue officials have been in contact with many survivors who are still buried under the wreckage, according to AFP.

Meanwhile, in a statement issued late Monday night, President Muhammadu Buhari encouraged rescue workers on the scene to “intensify” their efforts to save lives.

Many family are now anxiously awaiting word from the site to find out whether or not their loved ones have made it out safely.

AFP reports that Fawas Sanni told the news agency that his sister was inside the building.

He was working on the construction site with his sister, Zainab, who was a member of the National Youth Service Corps.

In the report, Mr Sanni says, “I was the last person who spoke to her before she left for work yesterday morning.”

There is dissatisfaction among family.

There are hundreds of people standing by in the blistering heat, hoping for word on any survivors.

Gerrard Road, one of the most important thoroughfares in the neighborhood, has been closed to all traffic.

Rows of ladies stand in the middle of the road, praying in Yoruba for the safety of those who have been missing.

The area immediately surrounding the scene has been blocked off to provide rescue crews with the space they need to reach those who are still unaccounted for.

However, there is a seething resentment among the crowd, which is upset with the slow pace of the rescue operation.

Despite the fact that it is still too early to determine what caused the collapse, the manager of the Lagos emergency management agency, Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, speculated that some building infractions may have been committed during the construction process.

The local authorities have requested an investigation into the collapse and have committed to making the final report public once it is completed.

In a statement issued by Femi Adesina, special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari, the president expressed his “complimentary sympathies” to those who had lost close ones.

The building in Ikoyi, a posh neighborhood in Lagos, was demolished at approximately 14:45 local time (13:45 GMT).

According to the development’s website, which has since been taken down, it was a part of a complex known as 360 Degrees Towers, which was planned to house luxury flats, townhouses, and penthouses, among other things, among other things.

The Governor of the state has made a decision.

Gbolahan Oki, the General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, has been suspended by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who announced the decision in a statement on Monday.

The governor also stated that the government would investigate what went wrong and punish those who were accused in the collapse of a 21-story building in Ikoyi, Lagos State, earlier this week.

A first move has been taken by the Governor, who has ordered that Mr. Gbolahan Oki, the General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency and an architect, be immediately suspended from his position. The suspension will remain in effect indefinitely.

A press statement issued by Gbenga Omotoso, Commissioner for Information for the State of Lagos, provided this information.

“The Lagos State Government is establishing an independent panel to investigate the collapse of the 21-story building on Gerrard Road in Ikoyi,” according to a portion of the announcement.

“Members of the panel will be recruited from the Nigeria Institute of Architects, the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, the Nigeria Society of Engineers, and other professional organizations,” the panel’s statement reads.

In an independent investigation, it will determine the remote and proximate causes of the incident and give recommendations on how to prevent similar incidents in the future. The investigation does not form part of the ongoing internal investigation being performed by the federal government.
