A dominant 2-0 victory over 10-man Atletico Madrid at Anfield on Wednesday ensured Liverpool’s progression to the knockout stages of the Champions League with two games to spare. The victory secured Liverpool’s top spot in Group B with two games to spare.
The goal came in the 13th minute, when Diogo Jota nodded home at the back post following a fantastic cross from the right by Trent Alexander-Arnold. Jurgen Klopp’s side went on to win 1-0.

Eight minutes later, Alexander-Arnold was the creator of the second goal, this time when his low pass into the box was wonderfully met by Sadio Mane, who fired past Jan Oblak from close range.
When Felipe was sent off in the 36th minute for an intentional trip on Mane, the Spanish side’s woes only grew worse. He was given a harsh straight red card.
When Jota thought he had scored his second and Liverpool’s third goal shortly after the half-time break, the goal was disallowed for offside following a VAR review.
Luis Suarez, a former Liverpool striker, also had a deflected effort that beat Alisson Becker ruled out for offside by video assistant referees.
