Poor Power Supply Investigated: FG to Take Control of BEDC, Remove Management
In recent times, the issue of poor power supply has become a recurring concern in Nigeria, affecting millions of citizens and hindering economic growth and development. In a joint statement to NERC, the state governments emphasized their intent to exercise their shareholder rights in BEDC to drive positive change:
“The provision of reliable electricity to enhance the welfare and development of our people is a core priority of our governments.”
Furthermore, the state governments advocate for the unbundling of BEDC’s operational areas along state boundaries to ensure more localized and efficient management. They argue that such a restructuring would enable tailored approaches to address the unique challenges faced by each region and develop greater accountability.
According to Prof. Mobolaji Ebenezer Aluko, Commissioner for Infrastructure & Public Utilities, Ekiti State:
“The BEDC states are merely demanding a seat at the upcoming discussions, in the spirit of subnational democracy.”
