Cristiano Ronaldo finishes his medical at Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo has finished his Manchester United medical, putting him one step closer to reuniting with his old club.

On Friday, United announced that they had secured a deal with Juventus to re-sign the 36-year-old attacker.

Personal terms on a two-year contract have been agreed upon, with the necessary components of the deal to be finalized before the deadline on Tuesday night.

The Premier League club will pay roughly €15 million (£12.87 million) and a further €8 million (£6.86 million) in add-ons for the Portugal captain, who had a physical over the weekend in Lisbon.

Between 2003 and 2009, Ronaldo scored 118 goals in 292 games for Manchester United.

Boss Massimiliano Allegri announced Ronaldo’s leaving Juventus Friday and claimed that he was told by the star that has “no desire” to return to the club.

United opponents from Manchester City were given the opportunity to recruit the 36-year-old and were considered a move, but the winners of the Premier League broke the negotiations off.

On Sunday, after United triumphed 1-0 at Wolves courtesy to Mason Greenwood’s 80th-minute strike, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised Ronaldo’s impending arrival, telling Sky Sports: “We’re excited about the whole experience Cristiano has had at Manchester United.”

“He will be announced as soon as we can get the papers in order. He’s a winner and a kind person. As for myself, I’m delighted to add more players.

“When he last played here, he was a much more experienced player, and he has had an incredible career. That he’s “too old” must make him happy. Put yourself in his shoes, and he’ll show you what he’s capable of!”

Solskjaer informed his attackers Ronaldo of Manchester United will probably go right into their first team.

Added the Norwegian: “He doesn’t sign up to sit on the bench. He’ll make everyone a better team.

“We have to do all the paperwork, hopefully that will be sorted and 100 per cent can be announced.

“They have three games, then he is gone with Portugal, his last game is on Tuesday, 7 September, but we can then get him back to the team and get him involved as quickly as possible.”

Former United captain Roy Keane acknowledged he had been taken in by the hype of Ronaldo’s homecoming.

“It’s terrific for United, the supporters, and the league. I have no doubt he’s still a great player.

“We’ve talked about the pros and cons, but I sense the hunger and drive; it’s not a pay day for him. He is already wealthy.

“He won the Golden Boot in the Euros, and now he has the World Cup. He’s a smarty. He’s returning to United to win. I don’t think he’ll win any major trophies – Man Utd’s midfield issues remain the same with or without Ronaldo – but an FA Cup or League Cup is certainly achievable.”
